“One for all, and all for one” is a motto traditionally associated with the heroes of the novel The Three Musketeers written by Alexandre Dumas. In the book, it was the motto of French musketeers Athos, Porthos, Aramis and d’Artagnan who remained loyal to one another through every triumph and every challenge. But, how does it relate to recruiting?

At Annex, we pride ourselves in being different from typical recruitment agencies. We do not believe in a “candidate ownership” business model, which a candidate is “owned” by a single recruiter. Annex’s recruitment team works together to help any candidate find their next opportunity and we help each other internally to achieve individual and team goals. Successful collaborative recruiting is based foremost on communication. On any given opportunity received, our recruiters refer candidates to each other who match requirements and within minutes we know who to contact. Annex lives and breathes collaboration and anyone who joins our company must be a team player to fit into this model and our culture.

Recruiting can get chaotic with all the candidate information to maintain and track. Organization is another vital part of collaborative recruiting. Annex recruiters stay organized by focusing on specializations within skillsets. Every recruiter is tasked with fostering lifetime relationships with candidates in their assigned specialization, such as project management or software development. This enables our recruiters to build rosters of active and passive candidates, drive productivity, improve the overall candidate experience, and provide timely feedback to both clients and candidates.

Collaborative recruiting goes beyond just recruiters. Our business development team acts as our eyes and ears in the market. They are the first to know about market trends, upcoming opportunities at the largest organizations in Canada, and what skills will be in demand for the next 12 months. Our marketing team also jumps in to assist with recruitment including phone calls, social media posts, direct emails, or communicating about our award-winning Annex Referral Program.

Recruitment by its nature is competitive, especially given the demand for IT and management consulting professionals today, but it does not mean that recruitment agencies need to be competitive internally, which can lead to employee disengagement and a toxic work environment.
